Experts & Appraisers

Who are the Collectible Experts?

Who are the “Experts” and where do you find them? Certainly the hit PBS series “Antiques Roadshow” showcases so called experts in many different collecting categories.  You could try calling one of the participating Appraisal Galleries and ask for a particular “as seen on TV” expert….good luck with that! You can always Google “collectibles” or “appraisers” or “expert appraisers” or any number of combinations and still not satisfy your expectations or needs. When it comes to finding an expert, word of mouth and recommendations are usually the most important criteria. That is where we members of Associated Collectors, money Managers & Experts (ACME) can help you find what you are looking for. We are made up of some of the world’s leading collectors, appraisers, auction houses and retail sellers. Our collective expertise numbers in the hundreds of years. We will help you locate any product or item that you desire, get you the best possible price and confirmation certification, guaranteed! If you want advice and/or counsel we can arrange that as well….all at a very modest fee, that can be applied to future purchases with and through the ACME International Network Connection (INC).

If you have a question, we will not only get back to you with a timely and in-depth answer, but will back up every piece of advice with a written assessment.

EXAMPLE: You have what you think is a 1st Edition of Mario Puzo’s book “The Godfather” signed by someone who (you think) worked on one of the 3 “Godfather” movies. You want to know what its worth. Our ACME experts will have you email them digital photos of the books’ key areas (Dust jacket, frontispiece, autographed notation, publication page and any other “points “ that may add…or subtract to the books’ value). We will guide you every step of the way to ensure that our respected and knowledgeable ACME researchers and appraisers give you an accurate assessment of the value and provenance. We will then give you a price range of comparable items, and if you are so inclined make you an offer (pun intended!) to 1) Purchase the book outright, or 2) make available for sale through the ACME network. If we sell your item we take a flat 20% of the item’s sale price (excluding of course, tax if any).

Unlike “Antique Roadshow”, we will do all of this online, over the telephone or in person whenever possible. In almost all cases, there will be no travel required by you, with little or no expenses necessary to satisfy your needs. For further information email us at Info@acmeconnection.com

 Balance Your Investment Portfolio

Your Investment Portfolio can range anywhere from Stocks, Bonds, Property, Real Estate holdings, Trust Fund, Antiquities, Artwork, 401 K or even a stash of cash hidden inside your mattress.

At ACME we recommend that you diversify your investments as much as possible. From the last several years, we all know what happened to people who only invested in the Stock Market or relied primarily on the supposed appreciation of their Real Estate holdings.

If just 5% to 10% of your entire investment portfolio contains quality collectibles, here’s what you will have and why. If the collectibles are considered rare and/or have a special cache, you will find that both in good times or bad that their value will never go down…they will only appreciate in value. Plus, you have the added value of being able to display and showcase your collectible for friends and family. There is nothing like the intrinsic, tactile pleasure of being able to actually touch and caress your collectible(s). Your collectible(s) will give you a sense of purpose; you are in effect the “Custodian” at this moment in your life of that very collectible. When was the last time you “stroked” your 401 K or a Stock certificate?!

Good Collectibles rise in value……

“Very Good” Collectibles…….skyrocket in value!

Good Collectibles like good wine age and get better as they “mature”. Who would have thought that a 1959 Edsel, considered an automotive joke AND sales disaster, would command prices far in excess of $100,000 fifty years later at rare car auctions, nationwide?

A 1st Edition Playboy magazine cost 50 cents to purchase in December 1953/January 1954. Today a copy in “good” to “very good” condition will be worth at least $5,000. If it is signed by Playboy founder, Hugh Hefner, you can probably add on another $1,000 to that.

Once again we must stress that “condition” is an important, and in most cases, all important, critical benchmark for increasing the value of your collectibles. A pristine 1st Edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby”, complete with a tight and bright Dust Jacket, is worth more than 1st Editions (without Dust Jackets) of all his other books (15+) combined. The difference is that for “traditional” book collectors and sellers, the Dust Jacket completes and provides one of the key selling points to the total rarity of the item. Back in those times, most people after purchasing a book, discarded the dust jackets as unnecessary to reading a book. Nowadays, of course, a collector realizes how truly rare a book from the 1920’s can be when found with an original dust jacket.

When it comes to rare books, one of the many “non-traditional” services that ACME will provide will be to help you “upgrade” your collectible. If it is a book lacking a Dust Jacket, we will track down a copy with a dust jacket that meets your price range. If you have a rare book with a torn or chipped dust jacket, we can source out or locate a suitable replacement or even, if you desire, can have your dust jacket “restored” to a state that meets with your approval. Our goal is always to meet your needs, help you enhance your collection, and give you total satisfaction, guaranteed.
