Magazine Collectibles

One of the most inexpensive ways to start a Collection or add to an existing one is to acquire specific magazines relating to your collecting interests. If you are interested in the Entertainment Industry there are a myriad of publications available to Consumers and the Trade. If you collect cars or boats or animals or books or anything for that matter, there are probably several magazines or more covering your collecting needs. Even if you are only interested in a specific subject or category, magazines can be a source of vast information and in many cases can turn out to be highly collectible themselves.

EXAMPLE: If you are interested in World affairs you might want to collect magazines that cover this area in depth. Here in the U.S. that could certainly mean Life, Time, Newsweek and probably some Business magazines like Fortune or Forbes. A 1st Edition of any of these magazines mentioned will cost anywhere from $350 to $2500, depending on condition and perceived importance (magazines with a famous figure on the cover, like say, Marilyn Monroe, will be worth more than a comparible different cover). That's not a lot of money to spend to own a copy or copies of famous magazines, which will only go up in value. A 1st edition of Motor Trend or Road & Track is much more affordable than a fine automobile from the same year of their first publication.

There are several other big advantages to collecting vintage magazines...some of the early advertisements are truly unique and may look spectacular hanging on your wall or as a framed holiday gift item for friends and relatives. Unlike the internet and search tools like Google or Wikipedia, a magazine is , in effect, a trip on a time machine complete with period photography, art, commentary and of course, ads. A vintage magazine is a great teaching tool, plus, you will not find that kind of tactile (page) turning experience from  "turning pages" on a Kindle or iPad. Magazines can do in depth coverage which TV and Radio can not do. ESPN, the Magazine has scores of in-depth articles in every issue, something that ESPN, the (sports) Channels(s) cannot afford to do, time-wise.

Here at ACME we have a vast resevoir of top selling vintage Consumer magazines, including every issue of Life magazine, thousands of Time Magazines, Saturday Evening Post's , Colliers', classic Esquire's, every issue of Playboy, 1950's & 60's TV Guides, Sports Illustrated's, Vogue's and many more. As you can imagine the "universe" of vintage and classic back issues is dwindling, so if you have a specific title or special occasion time frame or date, get in touch with us.
